Fisher

Fisher have the distinctive mustelid long tubular body and relatively short legs, small head with short ears and bright dark eyes, and a relatively long tail. Their lush pelt with long guard hairs has long been sought by trappers and fur buyers. These agile, semi-arboreal carnivores of North America originally ranged through the forested habitats of Canada, extending southwards in the forests of the Appalachian and Pacific Coast mountains of eastern and western regions, respectively (Graham and Graham, 1994).

Insect collecting discussion - Archive

In mid-summer ‘07, Grasslands Naturalists (GN) brought to the Nature Alberta Board a suggestion for developing a policy on insect collecting – or rather, over-collecting – particularly of Lepidotera (butterflies and moths). The plan was to devote a few pages of Nature Alberta to the discussion. However, the idea elicited a number of lengthy, detailed emails and letters from Alberta entomologists attempting to explain and justify collecting by amateurs and professionals.

YNC is a nature focused program with the goal of teaching children (primarily aged 5-14) and their families about nature.
