The Alberta Mycological Society is a volunteer study group who love Kingdon Fungi and consists of both amateur and professional members. The Alberta Mycological Society founded in 1987 by Professor Randy Curraah and Helene Schalkwijk-Barendse as the Edmonton Mycological Society. Over 20 years later consists of 170 active members from across Alberta. In 2007 they became the Alberta Mycological Society. Today it is the only mycolocial club in Canada's prarire provinces.
Activities include:
- Study of fungi diversity
- Providing educational programs to the public
- Seasonal Forays/Field Trips
- Mushroom Identification Workshops
- Development of Alberta Fungi lists
- Annual mushroom expostion "City of Champignons"
- Annual Gourmet Mushroom Dinner
