The Alberta Mycological Society is a volunteer study group who love the Kingdom of Fungi and consists of both amateur and professional members. The Alberta Mycological Society was founded in 1987 by Professor Randy Currah and Helene Schalkwijk-Barendsen, known then as the Edmonton Mycological Society. Over 20 years later, the AMS consists of almost 400 active members from across Alberta. Today it is the only mycological club in Canada’s Prairie Provinces. AMS members participate in mushroom forays and other exciting events all across Alberta. Please visit http://www.wildmushrooms.ws for more details.
In 1970, six natural history clubs joined together to form the Federation of Alberta Naturalists. Today, this same organization, known as Nature Alberta serves a membership of over 40 clubs and represents thousands of individuals across the province. Every one of these individuals share a passion for natural history.
