iNaturalist Projects: Strengthening Community Stewardship through Citizen Science
Matt Wallace is a Freelance Urban Ecologist, taking on as many nature stewardship and research projects as he can. He's built his success as a Citizen Science Coordinator overseeing the Calgary City Nature Challenge and Christmas Bird Count.  Since 2017, Matt has been an advocate for citizen science initiatives and promoting the collaborative adoption of iNaturalist to monitor, study, and grow a greater appreciation for biodiversity across Western Canada.  Matt has submitted over 36,000 observations to iNaturalist and oversees dozens of iNaturalist projects in an effort to inform land managers and conservation groups on the types of biodiversity they aim to protect. In his presentation, Matt will explore how stewardship groups can leverage iNaturalist Projects to foster meaningful relationships with their communities while simultaneously utilizing citizen science to refine their conservation efforts. By encouraging local participation, iNaturalist projects not only enhance biodiversity monitoring but also empower individuals to actively contribute and participate in the protection and understanding of their natural environments.
