World Migratory Bird Day Fall 2024
Saturday, October 12, 2024
Stop by the Edmonton Valley Zoo for a celebration of World Migratory Bird Day on October 12th, 2024. World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) is an annual awareness-raising campaign highlighting the need for the conservation of migratory birds and their habitats. This year's theme is "Protect Insects, Protect Birds." Insects provide the necessary energy for migratory bird species, because they contain remarkable nutrients, providing birds with protein-dense, high-energy sources of food. Migratory bird species depend on insects as food throughout their life.
Partner organizations will be hosting educational booths from 12:00pm-2:30pm including Nature Alberta, Edmonton River Valley Conservation Coalition, City of Edmonton Natural Areas, John Janzen Nature Centre, Wild Birds Unlimited, and WildNORTH.
This will be followed by a talk in the Edventure Lodge by Myrna Pearman from 3:00pm-4:00pm all about Alberta's birds and the role of insects!
When: Saturday, October 12th from 12pm to 2:30pm (Bird and Insect Friendly Fair), 3:00pm-4:00pm (talk by Myrna Pearman in Edventure Lodge)
