Trail Camera Monitoring Volunteers
Volunteers are needed for the next year to assist Friends of Elk Island Society (FEIS) leaders in retrieving the data from trail cameras, ensuring they are positioned correctly, and changing any batteries. Learn how to use GPS and trail cameras.
Volunteers must be current members of the Friends of Elk Island Society for insurance purposes. To become a Friends member, visit elkisland.ca/membership or contact Norm at norm.cameron@elkisland.ca.
The bi-weekly surveys may involve climbing eight-foot fences and hiking on snow/ice or mud-covered gravel roads, trails, or both. Some locations may require you to hike up to 10 kilometres. We would suggest that you bring water and a light lunch. Weather-appropriate clothing and footwear are required. The Friends will supply all the necessary equipment for the survey.
Watch FEIS Meetup for specific dates and times or contact norm.cameron@elkisland.ca. We meet at the Visitor Centre parking lot at the Park’s south entrance. Volunteers are briefed and paired with leaders and may be required to drive their vehicles to their designated locations.
The Friends of Elk Island Society has a permit to use trail cameras in the Park. It is an offence to use trail cameras in the Park without permission.
