Cochrane Environmental Action Committee (CEAC) is an apolitical organization with a mission to make Cochrane and area a more environmentally aware and active community. CEAC, through its many endeavors and efforts, is focused on encouraging participation and fostering hope in the challenge of ensuring an environmentally sustainable future, not only locally, but well beyond Cochrane.


COCHRANE & AREA GARDENING EXPO – APRIL 28, 2024

Whether you’re an experienced gardener, taking your first steps into gardening, or newly relocated to Cochrane and realizing you may need a few tips for gardening in this zone – this event will get you exciting about digging in the dirt!

When: SUNDAY, APRIL 28, 11:00 am – 3:00 pm
Where: Cochrane Lions Event Centre | Entry is free of charge

Here’s what you will discover at the Gardening Expo

  • Vendors: 40+ vendors selling seeds, seedlings, and gardening related products
  • Experienced Local Gardeners: take time to chat with subject matter experts about your gardening challenges
  • Seed Exchange Table operated by the Cochrane & District Horticultural Society: bring your extra seeds to add to the exchange and/or purchase seeds (by donation) to fill the gaps in your garden.
  • Guest Speaker Presentations: throughout the event you can take a seat in the speaker’s zone and have the opportunity to hear local gardeners share their knowledge, tips and tricks for making their gardens flourish.
  • Vendor Information: Are you a local gardener that would like to sell your seedlings, collected seeds, or plants? Perhaps you’re a maker of yard & garden handcrafts? If you grow or make the items you wish to sell, you may be a good fit for this event. Vendor fee is $15 for a 6′ table (provided).

The Cochrane & Area Gardening Expo is hosted by the Cochrane Environmental Action Committee (CEAC). All proceeds will be donated to a local organization to support environmental action in the Cochrane community.

BRANCHES AND BANKS – MAY 25, 2024

Pull on your boots and grab your shovel — it’s time for Branches & Banks 2024!

CEAC will be gathering on Friday May 24th (corporate and school day) and Saturday, May 25th for the community tree plant event. Organized by CEAC in partnership with the Town of Cochrane, Branches & Banks is a great outing for all ages – come alone, or bring your family, co-workers, neighbors and friends!

Join at the riparian area west of the Bow River north of the Jack Tennant Memorial Bridge. A registration link will be posted soon.

Approximately 2500+ trees will be planted. Be sure to dress for the weather as the event goes ahead rain or shine. Bring gloves and spades for planting. Don’t forget to bring your water bottle.

Outreach Program: In conjunction with tree plant activities, volunteers will be given an opportunity to chat with local environmental educators.

On site Volunteer Check-In: starts at 9:00 am— look for the white canopy near the pathway along the river. Parking available at the SLS Centre east parking lot – walk over to the site.
